About whatwasHere.com in Liverpool
whatwasHere.com in Liverpool aims to tell
history like it's never been told before: by the people who live in Liverpool and know it best.
Everyone knows something about the past, whether it happened yesterday, 20 years ago or 500 years ago.
We value that knowledge. We want people to contribute what they know, however big or small. Please contribute your story!
The website is a pilot for whatwasHere.com,
funded by NESTA (the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts).
We are working in Liverpool with the Liverpool Library Service
and a wide range of community organisations.
You can read more about whatwasHere.com and what we're trying to do in our blog:

Give us your feedback!
This is a very public trial for whatwasHere.com.
We know we haven't got everything right yet (yes we hate the Lost Stories balloon too, and there's no lost password facility and and...)
and want to hear about any problems you experience or ideas you have.
Please contact us.
Some background
The pilot started in March 2006 in Walton as www.whatwasinWalton.com, where we tested a first version of the website.
Based around Walton Library, this first phase of the project involved a number of community groups and events and collected
over 250 stories. In September 2006, based on the feedback from the Walton phase, we expanded to the whole of Liverpool.
Thank you Walton!
Thanks to everyone who took part in the Walton phase of the pilot. We have been amazed at your stories.
We would like to give particular thanks to the Forebears Family History Society for their early focus group
input for the design of the site, Walton Local History Society for giving us the infamous cow story,
John Kerrigan who helped kick-start the project with his stories of Walton, which you can see more of at his own website,
www.nowandthen.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk, Jackie Skinner from the
Everyman Theatre, Gary Lloyd, Adam Byrne and John Nettleton who made the events at Walton Library a great success.
A full list of the organisations who took part in whatwasinWalton.com and continue to take part is listed at the bottom of this page.
